Belt Scale

Hello A.Banerjee,

A pipe conveyor is a roll of rubber belt supported in frames of 4 X corner rollers. Supports are fixed.

To measure product you must release the support so it can be carried on a set of springs, or a load cell. Depending on the design of the scale, you may need to have one or two spring supported frames. Get on the phone to your Scale Manufacturer [don't be afraid to talk to their Technical Advisors. They are only too glad to have someone like you talk to them].

With a pipe conveyor the scale can be under the belt, or hung from above.

The scale will measure the self weight of the pipe conveyor. You are mainly interested in the weight of the product carried by the belt. What accuracy of measurement do you want? [The more accurate, the higher the cost of measurement].

How will the measurements be fed into your control system? What interface do you need?

All the best - John.Rz

Re: Guide Line For Location Of Belt Scale In A Pipe Conveyor

Dear Mr Bannerjee

There are several ways to weigh the product in a pipe conveyor- either conventionally at the head end or tail end where it is troughed (leaving it troughed for a little longer) this gives best accuracy. It can be weighed where the tube is formed but this gives lower accuracy approx + or - 5% both ways have been done.

Also radioactive measuring has been done but this requires other safety controls.
