Super-Screw Fastener On Pipe Conveyor

Posted on 16. Dec. 2005 - 12:50

Dear all !

After all one customer send me some picture of an typical application of Super-Screw on a tube conveyor.

1) Belt type

NF1000/6 P

Heat resistant (110 °C)

20 mm thickness 6,5 mm top + 3 mm bottom

Diameter: 500 mm

2) Conveyor from Koch Pipe Conveyor in Germany

Conveyed material : cement/clinker from the cement plant to the port /coal from the port to the cement plant (both direction)

Lump size: coal about 50 mm, cement and clinker about 8 mm

Bulk density : 900-1400 Kg/m3

Capacity: 1,000 m3/t = 1,400 t/h in both direction

Belt speed : 2.2 m/s

Loading ratio : 64 %

Pipe diameter : 500 mm

Conveyor length: 355 m

Belt width : 1,900 mm

Lifting height : 23 m

3) Super-Screw installed : 3 pieces SS 80 08 C NO (heat resistant 200° C) and 2.000 mm long on the same belt.

A lot of other applications in France, Belgium and USA prove that Super-Screw is suitable for Pipe Conveyor, even on steel cord belts up to ST 2000, and for a long working time.

If somebody has also some pictures and can tell about his own experience it should be usefull for all users who want to be sure. In fact, Super-Screw help to reduce the down time and belt maintenance costs and to increase the productivity of the pipe conveyors.

Experience With Super-Screw On Pipe Conveyor And Steel Cord Bel…

Posted on 16. Dec. 2005 - 06:49

Dear Bruce Baker,

Super-Screw has been developed for textile belts but more and more customers want to use it also for steel cord belts, as you can see it on the attached picture (it's a Ferroflex F 1000 from the company Fenner-Dunlop). It seems to work.

Today some customers like one cement plant in France of the Lafarge Group have decided to use it in the case of damage. Another example is the tunnelling company of the Gothard tunnel in Swiss because they have to extend the belt periodically. Other vulcanizing companies also have used it, like in the mine in Togo on the picture. For two weeks a new customer decided to install one Super-Screw on a ST 4200 only a few miles of our company head office, so that we can follow this application.

But this short experience is not enough to recommend Super-Screw as a proven fastener for steel cord belts. That's why I want to receive more experience record from users.

Meanwhile, if you want to use it for a steel cord belt, you have to contact Phyl Tyler in Smithfield NSW/Australia, phone number : 02/9757/7400. He will send you a little description how to do the job, but today on you own risk.

The Optima fastener type "C" (in Europe also Hermetic fastener) is a plate fastener made of stainless steel with 4 very sharp staples made of carbon steel HLE. The main application is for pre tension the steel cord belts in the mining sector (working tension up to 200 N/mm). The safety factor is low, but it's a proven fastener for this application for belts up to ST 4200.

In fact, like all belt fasteners made of metal, it's not a fastener for a long life time and it don't works with pipe conveyor as Super-Screw do !

Mr Edgar Jakob

I’ve had some first hand experience with the Minet super screw fastener on heavy and light fabric and some solid woven but never on steelcord.

Their website lists a fastener for steelcord “Optima fasteners, For heavy duty belts: Proved fasteners for the mining industry. Special version for steel cord belt.”

If you haven’t already, send them an email.

Website is at: http://www.mlt-eu.com/multiside/index.php?sprache=USA

Steel Cord Splicing- Minet

Posted on 21. Sep. 2010 - 09:43

Has anyone actually used the superscrew to splice a steel cord belt? It looks like Minet is asking people to try it but they say do so at your own risk.

It would seem like they should do the testing themselves. Having said that- has anybody tried this? How would the fastener hold the cables together? It would seem like the screws would just rip the rubber.

Super Screw - Steel Cord

Test have been on-going for about 6 months. Still inconclusive. I would not apply it to steel cord today, based on test results with present product properties.
