Protection Chains for Wheel Loader Tires

Posted in: , on 10. May. 2011 - 15:41

Hello to everyone,

I would like to ask about advantages and disadvantages of use protection chins for wheel loaders. I know that protection chains increase work life of tires and increase friction. This is definitely advantages, but what is disadvantages of chain use. What will happen with other parts of machine?

Thank you very much and best regards!

Hello Davor,

The only disadvantage to full protection tire chains is the initial

purchase price per set of four chains.

The chains are easily maintained and repaired with repair links using

common repair links for link chain.

The axle of the loader has to be raised to allow installation of the

chain sets on the two wheels of the axle using your shop crane with

a lifting frame to allow the tire to be spun by hand to lace the chain

links to the opposite end of the chain mat with the connector links as

the chain mat covers the tread and both the inner and outer side walls

of the individual tire.

The air pressure of the tire must be maintained at a higher pressure to

ensure proper tensioning on the chain set at all times.

If you have a blow out and the tire is damaged the chain set must be

removed to change the tire and the chain must be relaced on the new tire

this is the only disadvantage to tire protection chains as it consumes time

to remove them and install them.

These tire chains provide the end user huge amounts of protection and save

on tire damage and increase the useable life of each tire in the your loaders.

Your machine operators ned to be reminded that the tire chains are wear

parts and be sure that the tires are not spun excessively when mucking

out the shots on the quarry.

Izaharis has covered the lot. If you think you might need chains...you do!
