Mr Banerjee

The is no problem on hematite but it could be on magnetite

Dear Shri Banerjee,

As you know there are two types of arrangements for magnetic separator.

1) Cross belt magnetic separator

2) In-line magnetic separator.

The first issue would be whether to use cross belt magnetic separator or inline magnetic separator. For example, if the belt speed is comparatively slower, one may tend to opt for cross belt magnetic separator. One will also opt for this separator if there is a layout requirement or application constrain for installing the inline magnetic separator. Generally, one prefers to locate this cross belt magnetic separator near ground level so that its maintenance is easy and installation is also economical. This should not be positioned on concave curvature. Such installation should have provision to adjust its vertical height for locating at the clearance height which gives best result.

One will tend to opt for inline magnetic separator, if the belt speed is comparatively high or layout arrangement permits the installation at head. The magnetic separator removal (tramp iron traveled during extraction) is in the direction of the belt motion and thereby it is more effective compared to cross belt magnetic separator. This arrangement is expensive as generally it is located at higher elevation. It requires discharge pulley of stainless steel construction and also certain portion of the discharge chute of stainless steel construction. Hood could be of aluminum. In addition, the maintenance hoist for such installation is quite expensive. Such magnetic separator installation should have provision to adjust its position in the direction of conveyor and also adjustment of its inclination in vertical plane, for the best results.

There are also other separators such as plane magnet. This can have a position like cross belt or inline. There is also magnetic pulley.
