Hot material conveying

Dear Sir

One of our customers requires to handle HOT REFRACTORY CEMENT BALLS ( Around 1500°C temp). Please advice us suitable conveying mechanism if any. Capacity around 3 TPH. Length approximately 25 mtrs. Lift 4 mtr.

Material is required to be collected from the Kiln in red hot condition.

How big are the balls??

Maybe an inclined apron plate type conveyor as a start point.

Your temperature is approaching melting temperature of most steels. Thus, a ceramic thermal protective liner must be used to plate all steel surfaces.

Special care must be taken with the loading of the balls and with the 16% incline. First, a ceramic liner is necessary. 40 mm ball impact energy must be controlled to protect the liner against fracture. The chute feed system must be given serious thought.

Second, the liners must have pockets or trays to elevate the balls. The balls cannot be conveyed up a 16% incline with conventional plates.

I agree with Designer on the concept of an apron feeder. It must be fitted with lifting trays or similar devices. The other noted points also need addressing.

Dear Mr. R. Ganguly,

You can write to AMUND, Germany. They have supplied conveyor handling HOT DRI to Hazi steel.

you have not given details of kiln. Is it a continuos kiln? Is it batch type kiln?

3 Tonnes per hour is about 2.5 cu. m. /hr. This is not a large quantity.

If batch mode of transport acceptable, you can use refractory lined tipping pot / ladle and move it up a ramp (like skip hoist) You may require two pots, one fiilling and one transferring material in case of a continuous kiln.

Do you need to keep the spheres hot ?

is the temperature something you price or are you going to cool them afterwards?

How far are you taking them .

Dear Mr. Sanraj,

Magaldi Power is specialized in hot material handling.

As Mr. Nordell pointed, 1500°C is higher than the melting point of the most common steels but at the same time, as Mr. Vinayak pointed, 3 t/h is a small quantity, therefore the balls, once loaded onto a conveyor, will quickly dissipate part of the outside temperature, therefore they will not transmit an huge thermal power to the conveyor components.

The plates of our conveyor are made in heat resistant steel and are are designed is such a way to quickly dissipate the heat, helping to maintain their temperature in an acceptable level.

As example, see the pictures showing the transportation of red hot forgings at approx 1000°C on the Magaldi Superbelt.

We are confident that we can easily handle your product, please contact me at
