could you pl. elaborate more on your query regarding rotating chute: is the chute rotating and what is the profile of the material discharged, is it vertical or inclined.

Dear Mr Satwinder

Yes you are right...the chute is rotating with a known RPM about a fixed vertical axis.The inclination angle of the chute can be varied from 17 deg to 53 deg.Chute is of length 3 m and it`s shape is semi cylindrical.Idea is to predict the falling trajectory of the material from the chute and the spread of the material for a known initial velocity of the material when it reach the chute.At the same time the profile of the material in the chute.

Can the x-section be calculated? Yes, using DIscrete Element Method (DEM) modeling. Granular dynamics, using DEM, can solve many such puzzling particle flow regimes. Some limitations are: a)model size in 2-D or 3-D with number of particles (comminition side)

During the late 50th and 60th. Prof. Jung, head of R&D from the former Steinmueller boiler manufacturing made a lot of investigations on rotating chutes. They use rotating chutes as feeding and dosing elements for bulk solids.

I´m shure to have some copies of his calculations (closed mathematical description with set of diff-eq.)in my stock.

If so, I´ll post some figures here.

Dear Mr. Nag

The determination of the motion of material in a rotating chute and the dischage trajectory is well suited to physical modelling. Movement in rotating vessels of many kinds is strongly dependent on the Froude Number of the system. This applies across a wide range of rotational speeds. Similarly, discharge trajectory can be scaled.

Requirements are chute geometry and rotational speed. Results are best for free flowing granular materials above 150 microns average diameter, but other materials can be simulated.
