Capture Velocity

Hello,

Capture velocity is the necessary air velocity at any point upstream of the hood required to overcome opposing air currents, thereby capturing contaminated air.

Hood face velocity: velocity of air at the surface of hood.

1- Regarding to the above definitions, it seems it should be difference between capture velocity and hood face velocity, isn't it?

2- However when hoods are installed over closed volumes such as belt conveyor skirts, the capture velocity and hood face velocity will be the same, isn't it? ■

Capture Vs Face Velocity

Meanwhile ACGIH has recommendation for capture velocity, such as 1-2.5m/s for belt conveyors,

but it seems there isn't any for face velocity!

Do you have any recommendation for face velocity?

Dears,

What is your idea about 4 m/s or 5 m/s capture velocity or hood face velocity? ■
