Ground-breaking ceremony at UWT

On 10 July, the German company “UWT GmbH-Level Control” was able to kick off another innovative and future oriented building project less than three years after completing its last office building.

The specialist for solids level measurement turned the next sod, this time for its new 2 million Euro production and office building with a floor space of 2600 square metres. Due to continuous business success and a resulting increase in employees, further expansion was deemed necessary. The Managing Directors, Peter Schropp and Uwe Niekrawietz plan over the next seven years to double the existing number of employees – currently 115 people belong to the UWT group worldwide, with over 70 in Betzigau, Germany. The building will be completed by the end of 2008.

The striking key feature of the building is its cost saving and climate friendly energy efficiency. Thanks to the airtight outer shell, a heat recovery ventilation system, the installation of an ultra modern pellet heating system and a thermal solar energy system, as well as nightly air circulation,

a mere 5-6 kWh per square metre will be required annually. The three storey building energy requirements are therefore well below the passive house standard of 15 kWh/m! The employees are thus guaranteed an optimal room temperature, irrelevant of the time of year.

This exemplary project has been planned by the architect Michael Felkner whose visions will be realised by the construction company, Ambros in Hopferau, Germany, which is renowned for its wood constructions. The use of wood for the new building was considered an essential element. Both Peter Schropp and Uwe Niekrawietz place value not only on the economical benefits for their company, but also on supporting local regional companies. To help strengthen the regional value chain, materials will be acquired from surrounding companies wherever possible.
