Maroncelli, France, produces

QUALITY AGGREGATES FROM THE RHNE DELTA

Flexible plant operation, easily adjustable to match the end product's requirements, forms a key element in a stationary installation at Socit des Carrires Maroncelli in Orange, Southern France. This new plant, built by Metso Minerals and with a capacity of 600 tonnes per hour, exploits natural gravel deposits from the Rhne delta. It has been operating since January 2001.

“With the present set-up, we can adjust production in a few minutes to suit our customers' end-product requirements,” explains Jean-Claude Maroncelli, Managing Director of Socit des Carrires Maroncelli. He continues, “This is possible thanks to the two crushing lines within our new plant configuration.”

“Thanks to the advanced automation system, our present production of 600 000 tonnes per year can be achieved with a total workforce of 11 people, of which only 5 work with the actual production,” Mr Maroncelli adds.

River gravel from the Rhne delta

Maroncelli uses mineral deposits based on 58 hectares of river gravel from the delta of one of France's major rivers, the Rhne. The gravel layer is 9 m thick, and contains ‘silico calcaire’, i.e. limestone with silicone contents 0-250 mm in size.

Maroncelli processes 4.5 hectares of gravel per year and has 20 years' worth of reserves, after which an artificial lake and new residential area will be built on the site.

The feed material is loaded from a 30m3 hopper onto a movable Nordberg belt conveyor (250m in length) and then onto a 1.6 km long conveyor with a capacity of 400 tph. The conveyor feeds two Nordberg TS series two and triple deck screens, classifying the materials into end products before passing them on to the two crusher lines.

The secondary crushing stage consists of Nordberg GP100S and HP300 cone crushers, with a 30 mm and 13 mm closed side setting, while the fine crushing stage is operated with two HP200 cone crushers, both with a 12 mm setting.

After crushing, the required end products are classified using three screens: DS303, TS303 and TS403 inclined triple deck screens. The two TS screens were recently equipped with Trellex dust control to reduce dust and noise in material processing. All Maroncelli screens are fitted with Trellex screen mesh.

The end products include 0-2 mm, 2-6 mm, 0-4 mm, 4-6 mm, 6-10 mm and 10-14 mm sized materials. Based on customer needs, all end products can be processed through a sand washing circuit.

The fifth CE2+ quality certificate in France

Up to 40% of the end products are conveyed directly to two neighbouring customers who produce concrete blocks for construction purposes. The rest is marketed in Provence or, in the case of some special products, abroad.

Socit des Carrires Maroncelli was France’s fifth company, and the first in the Provence Alpes Cte d´Azur region, to receive the distinguished CE2+ quality certificate.
