Gravity Down-Flow MILLING- and BLENDING of Pharmaceutical Powders
New grinding/blending plant for active substances under cGMP conditions.
Project description
Pharmaceutical powders come in a broad range of characteristics. Segregation, blockage, bridge building, free flowing must be handled with the same equipment. GMP compliant processing in a Nitrogen atmosphere are a prerequisite.
ASSCO Engineering realized the plant in close cooperation with the client Siegfried Ltd. a Swiss pharmaceutical company. The plant went into production during the 1. Quarter 2004
Plant Outline
Depending on the required tasks, there are two separate milling/blending lines available. Line 1 can handle batch sizes of up to 2000 Liters whereas line 2 is designed for batches up to 4000 Liters. The plant is extending over 4 floors. Loading from drums via a crusher into a silo takes place on the 4th floor. From the silo the product is conveyed by a dosage screw through a mill into a mixer. After homogenizing, the mixer is emptied directly into a packaging station placed on the ground floor where the product is packed automatically into bins. The whole process is completely enclosed and the product remains free of contaminations. The mills and sieves are mobile and can be moved from one line to the other. Expansion with other types of process equipment is enabled. The whole plant can be cleaned and dried in situ by a system of nozzles.
A system of 9 distributed Siemens Siematic S7-300 PLC controllers are interconnected by Ethernet TCP/IP with a WinCC based server station.
In accordance with the room concept the filling, grinding and packaging is implemented in level 3A rooms.
