BEUMER successful in the sugar industry

In the range of complete modification of the packing line at Zuckerfabrik Jülich AG – a well-known German manufacturer of sugar – BEUMER was awarded with the order regarding the delivery of a high capacity palletizing installation for the palletizing of sugar bagged in valve or open bags.

BEUMER was challenged to workout a convincing solution for the palletizing of two types of bags onto various pallet sizes and with different packing pattern. The palletizing capacities amounted to 800 paper valve bags or 1.000 open bags resp. The open 50 kg bags consist of paper layers, PP tissue and jute. Their palletizing characteristics differ from those of the paper bags. Furthermore, depending on the type of bag being palletized different sheets have to be applied in the intermediate layers.

The concept presented by BEUMER was convincing. For this task the BEUMER paletpac® 1250 was planned. This machine has been equipped with additional devices for various sheet and pallet sizes. The possibility of Teleservice was another decisive factor.

A maximum of 8 layers per package is stacked. The 25 kg paper valve bags are palletized in a 5-bag bonded pattern, the open 50 kg bags in a 3-bag bonded pattern. The 50 kg bags – consisting of different layers of paper, PP tissue and jute – are sewed and have an excess length of 60 mm. These features had to be taken into consideration in order to ensure a trouble-free palletizing process. Therefore, an oversized layer table had been planned. The possibility to palletize simultaneous onto two Düsseldorfer pallets (600x800mm) arranged directly behind each other was considered as an option for a later extension of the installation. The corresponding packing pattern has already been programmed to the control technology.

For further improvement of the bag stack ability and to make the loading of bag stacks without pallets into containers possible, various sheets – depending on type of stack – are applied between the layers or directly on the empty pallet:

- Split cardboard sheets (800 / 2 x 600)

- Slip sheets (plastic; 1.000 x 1.400)

- Cardboard sheets (800 x 1.200)

For this purpose a sheet applicator with 3 magazines for different sizes has been planned.

The control of the BEUMER paletpac® has been equipped with a bus connection for a connection to the control system. The feedback of output data, fault indications and status messages can be forwarded via this connection.

Furthermore, the Zuckerfabrik Jülich AG takes advantage of the BEUMER teleservice. The teleservice offers the possibility to connect a programming device to PLC controls at BEUMER via the worldwide telephone network. By this the availability of machines and installations is increased considerably as the system specialist can take appropriate action without delay caused by travel times.

Despite the very limited delivery time of 2 months the German manufacturer succeeded in delivering the entire palletizing installation in the agreed time.

BEUMER has once more proven to be a reliable partner for the sugar industry.
