I've heard that the top end screw drive is troublesome: which would be the critical element anyway.

Screwing so high vertically is never going to be easy. All these fancy machines get their come uppances some day. How many Simporters are on order right now? We get a plethora of mobile suction unloaders & you can always tell when & where they are working by the dust clouds.

The solution lies with the shippers & they don't give a toss because they still get paid while the ship is tied up. Money for old rope really. Who's going to lash out on a self unloader if you can skin the punter with demurrage?

If your material isn't too dusty use the good old fashioned grab. I'm surprised the grab unloader people haven't developed a shroud for the grab by now: to improve the dust situation. If they don't know how to do it I can knock a design up for you. ■
