7,000 Dwt Hatch Barge for conversion

Posted in: , on 3. Feb. 2005 - 10:53

We are owners of a towed 7,000 dwt Geared Hatch Barge. The barge is built in 1990 and is of double hull construction with side tanks, double bottoms, 3 Holds / Hatches and Macgregor hatch covers.

The barge is currently being traded in the Middle East for regular bulk and bagged cargoes including grain. In view of her double skin and box shaped holds, she seems an ideal candidate for conversion to a bulk cement carrier or similar purpose. The current very high freight market and ship sale prices make it an economically viable proposition to consider a barge compared to a normal bulk carrier for conversion.

In case any of your subscribers have any such projects on their books or can offer any ideas we would be interested to hear about them.

Thanks

Conversion Of Barge

Posted on 3. Feb. 2005 - 12:33

dear gokal, please note that your barge can be converted either for cement, fly ash or products having similar type of properties but not for other/all materials because the system for extraction and feeding is different for different materials, now you will have to decide the type of material you want to trade in your barge.

we have got exposure in system dsigning for similar project for one of our clients in bahrain, please note that in this the approval from various local and internation authorities are required for making your barge sea worthy, please send us the master drawing of the barge to suggest/design a system for you.

regards,anil

Dear Anil,

We are sending you by separate email some further details of our barge, which is presently loading grain at Jebel Ali. It is towed by our 2100 HP tugboat. Fyg the barge hatch covers are already fitted with 'cement holes' for loading and dust collection.

Our prefererence would be to have some kind of post conversion JV as opposed to a straight sale.

Pls advise your ideas as well as any potential projects in mind.

Thanks

U could talk to people like Kvaerner who do ships converison for cement.

There are a couple of others.

U could also talk to the Korean shipywards for offers for the conversion.

Cheers
