Return Roll Guard

Posted in: , on 27. Oct. 2005 - 13:01

I would like to know if the products “RETURN ROLL GUARD”, now available on the market, efficiently protect against any accident to the operators working at belt conveyors and if they are effective, as I doubt that some material stops between the roller and the ROLL GUARD with the risk that the roller may be blocked.

Furthermore I would like to know the address of any manufacturer of this product for eventual purchases.

Thanks for cooperation.

Kind regards

Return roll guarding has been a very sore spot for me. We have experimented with many of our own designs but have not come up with anything worthwhile yet. I have also been searching the market to see what products are out there for that purpose.

I have come up with one that I have not tried yet but I am checking into it. You can check it out at the following link.

If you try it write back and let me know how it worked out.

Hello Denis,

Return garland idlers are extensively used in conveyors. I have come across need for following type of protections. I would like to know about your need for special protection.

1) If the belt level is just one meter from the floor, the return garland idler will be hardly 500 mm to 600 mm above the floor. There is nothing to maintain underneath and generally this is without any protection from sides.

2) If the garland idler is in overhead gallery and if there is opening below the conveyor, the failure of link will result into the fall of idler through gallery bottom, causing accident underneath. In such case the gallery underneath the return garland idler should be provided with seal-plate.

3) If the conveyor level from supported floor is sufficiently large, say 0.8 m to 1.8m, than somebody will try to pass underneath. In this case one needs the safety guard according to the situation.

4) In case of cross-country conveyor, if animals are supposed to pass below the return belt, then appropriate protection / preventive measures need to be taken and at the same time allowing the animals to cross over at the appropriate points.
