Re: Pulley Shell & End Disc Thickness Calculation
Dear sir,
There is no quick calculation. I highly recommend you consult a quality conveyor pulley designer/manufacturer who will most probably run it thru there in house software and advise you of the dimensions. ■
Re: Pulley Shell & End Disc Thickness Calculation
Dear all who think everything is pretty easy and expect knowledge and experience is for free here,
for years I am takin part in the discussions here and it is extremely interesting to share experiences with other people and exchange news. But I do not think (and I have read similar comments from others here), that this or other forums were made in order to give away experience and knowledge that grew within years or even decades. The know how was build last but least also for economical reasons. Engineers don´t sell or give away there knowledge for free (as some people here are expecting), but engineers sell solutions.
Answering the question: There is no simple formular for quick calculations. And I agree 100% with Paul Attiwell: you should contact an expert.
Regards, ■

Re: Pulley Shell & End Disc Thickness Calculation
Dear Shri M B,
Pulley shell thickness and end thickness calculation is a specialised and very complicated subject. Its procedure cannot be described in forum. These calculations are mainly done as per theories from Germany and may be other places. For immediate need you may refer to some competent pulley designers to get the recommendation for the specific application, and gradually may acquire the knowledge about the subject for future need.

Pulley Thickness Calcualtion
Dear Sir,
For conveyor pulley thickness is arrived by me based on the formula given in varies book. How to calculate the thickness of hub connecting disc plate thickness. If I any thumb rule for shell thickness 16 mm , then hub and end disc min 24 mm like that. No book says about the relation between these two. Roarl's formula on stress and strain at any thickness 2 to 500 mm it is satisfying. We unable to decide the thickness of end disc. Please suggest any method to decide end disc.
Regards,
T.Karthik ■

As stated by previous posters in this thread it is a complicated calculation and best left to the pulley manufacturer all you need to give them is the T1 and T2 calculated result, desired diameter, bearing size and bearing centers and hold them accountable for the accuracy and design of the pulley. This should be done in most cases. There is no need for you to calculate the end discs. You can specify a thicker (minimum thickness) shell if you have a shell wear issue. ■

This recent reply serves to confuse. If Roark really concludes that a 2mm thickness, wherever, and a 500mm thickness, wherever, are both satisfactory, whatever, then I, and everyone else in this business might as well throw the book away. Please read the respected text again, and again.
By the way, how do you fix the locking device, bush or key, whatever, into a 24mm thick hub?
If you decide to manufacture pulleys there are many replies provided by very learned forum members for your interest. ■

Dear Sir,
thank you for all for your reply. I have refereed the below link

Still not able to decide the thickness of end disc.
for 16 mm shell thickness, 12 mm hub end plate is proposed by Pulley mfg. ■
Re: Pulley Shell & End Disc Thickness Calculation
Dear Mr. Karthik,
As you can see from the other reply's and the reference links designing modern pulleys is much more complicated than rule of thumb equations.
It would be helpful to have some information about the tensions, wrap angle, width, diameter and if this is a drive or brake pulley.
I have been working on a new web based computer program for analyzing and designing conveyor pulleys using the finite element method. If you are interested in trying a beta version to see if it answers your questions please contact me directly.
