Segregation in big bag/octabin

During packaging of end-product (plastic with masterbatch) in big bags or octabins, pouring heap segregation occurs in the big bags/octabins.

The effect of the segregation that occurs in the upstream equipment is minimal, because of re-mixing when product flows out of the vessels and hoppers in mass-flow regime.

Is there (standard) equipment on the market that can be retrofitted in an existing big bag/octabin filling installation to prevent the formation of a pouring heap in the big bag/octabin and thus prevent the occurrence of segregation ?

Ajax has made container infeed devices that reduce the degree of segregation developed by repose slope formation and other mechanisms. We have also supplied drop-in fittings for hoppers and silos that re-mix the contents in discharge. In view of the many and varied geometries of containers, bulk properties and clients requirements, it is not practical to offer a standard piece of equipment but on receipt of specific application details a proposal can usually be put forward that offers considerable improvement in performance. My book, User guide to Segregation', published by The British Materials Handling Board, offers much background information and advice on the subject. I will be pleased to furnish further details on request.
