Silo Unloading Method

Hi,

I am after a solution for silo unloading into a truck where the silo is at or near ground level.

The material would be a cement product.

I understand that typical silo unloading is top fill, via gravity etc., into a bulk road tanker which would then pneumatically transfer at its destination.

However is there a way to transfer into a truck without using the top fill method?

For example could you pneumatically transfer from the silo into the truck considering the truck can be pressurised and suitable for this purpose (would a filter be required on the truck vent etc.)?

Appreciate any assistance, guidelines, or examples of installations that anybody can make me aware of.

Thanks,

Ronan

Dear Ronan,

Loading a bulk road tanker from a silo with the outlet at ground level is not such a big problem.

You could install a slope screw conveyor ending above the bulk truck and load the bulk truck then through a retracting loading bellow with an attached bellow filter.

Be careful that the screw conveyor can not be overloaded and get stuck.

This option is for a bulk truck loading station close to the silo.

A second option is to install a pneumatic conveying system between the silo outlet and a specially built bulk truck loading station.

Then you will need

-Compressor

-Rotary valve underneath the silo

-Piping to a filter receiver vessel, big enough to separate the cement from the air flow

-Inside the receiver vessel a correctly sized filter with pulse cleaning

-Underneath the filter receiver an outlet valve with a loading bellow as described before.

In both cases, the loading bellow must be positioned high enough to accommodate the bulk truck top loading openings.

A weigh bridge can be added to start and stop the loading process, to prevent overloading the bulk truck according to the local traffic weight restrictions.
