Grain size to handle in Air slides-Reg.

Posted in: , on 4. Dec. 2008 - 14:03

Sirs,

We wanted to know the minimum and maximum grain size and Bulk density of the material which can be conveyed/handled vide Closed air slides and Open air slides in order to handle various types of materials using the same system.

Thanks.

Dear Mr D. Nithyanandan,

Grain- or particle size is not the only criterion to consider.

Whether a bulk material is suitable to convey in a fluidized airslide,

depends on the fluidizing properties of that material.

If you are planning to convey materials, using an airslide, you can also ask

manufacturers.

Naming the materials in mind will give you more conclusive answers.

best regards

Dear Mr D. Nithyanandan,

In addition to the previous answer.

Fluidizability can be estimated with the Geldart diagram.

All products, which are classified in Zone A are fluidizable and most likely to convey with an airslide.

Small particles, which are cohesive or sticky, will be very problematic.

Known materials that can be conveyed by airsides are cement, fly ash, slag, alumina, etc

Materials like cereals and pellets are not being conveyed by airs slides.

Each material requires a different angle and/or amount of fluidizing air volume.

Blowing air into the airs slide at such an amount that the airslide becomes a pneumatic conveying pipe is not an solution.

Best regards
