Wgt of Wirecloth per square foot

Posted in: , on 3. Oct. 2004 - 19:35

DID YOU KNOW: As a general rule of thumb, the weight per square foot of wirecloth in a vibrating screen body is figured at 3 pounds per square foot as a constant for the formula.

Of course, this goes out the window if using perf plate, rubber or urethane. ThESE materials can in themselves be heavier per square foot and or the hardware added to support them creates a heavier STATIC WEIGHT which may deaden the vibrating force of the screener and may have to be compensated for.

EACH CASE is its own individual problematic situation.

Maintaining the TENSION as always...........George

A quick formula for the weight of any square aperture metric wire mesh (apologies to our non metric friends):

wire mesh mass (kg/sq m) = (d^2 x 12.7) /p

where

d = wire dia (mm)

p = wire pitch (mm) = aperture + wire dia

Guys,

Great stuff and thank you tons for the equations, but don't make like so difficult for yourselves! We have the internet and other resources for a reason, simply visit a manufacturer's website ( try ) and use their resources and information!

I have also gone as far as to call these guys and ask them for some formulas, such as percentage of open area, weight per roll of 100' of material and etc.

Just a though to toss your way!

Not sure why you would call your own company for that information joncro55. Quite a sneaky way to do business. Exactly what we watch for.

If you want to advertise on the site I am sure Reinhard would be more than happy to assist you.

Hello George Baker,

The wire mesh comprises of longitudinal wires (say warp) and latitudinal wires (say weft). These wires get bent while passing over each other, so exact weight should be obtained from the manufacturer / supplier of the wire mesh.

Otherwise, for approximation purpose, one has to find out the length of longitudinal wires and latitudinal wires in 1 meter x 1 meter area. The quantity of these wires to be worked out using the applicable pitch for warp and weft. Find out the weight and then add some % for the crimping of wires. % will depend on the pitch of the wires and wire diameter.

The word warp and weft are not applicable to wire mesh, but have been used here just to convey the identification.
