Shape of aperture

Hello, My greetings to all. We are manufacturers of Industrial Filters & Strainers and have recently developed polyurethane flip flow mats for one of our customers.

I wish to know

1) where is tear drop aperture used and what would be the size/specs of tear drop if coal is to be screened upto -6mm size.

2) Supposed we develop PU mats with enlarged/tapered/wedge shaped openings will it serve any purpose for screening of coal,coke, woodchips etc

Screen Aperture Shape

Hello,

Questions on screen aperture shapes can be answered by screen manufacturers ( possible buyers for your screen mats ) themselves

Specifically teardrop or semiteardrop apertures have advantages :

* Bigger open screen area for same length of holes compared to slot apertures ( when laid in staggered rows ) as they can be packed tighter while keeping the strength requirements on mat .

* Lower pegging / wedging risk .

* More precise screening of near mesh grain size .

* For 6 mm coal one can use 6 x 24 -- even 6 x 30 slots .

A wedge shape ( negative taper downeards ) is always a prerequisite of good mats so as to give relief at pass.

Teardrop Shaped Aperture

Posted on 28. Mar. 2008 - 07:51

Hmmmm.....interesting. As always in this business..TERMS or people's use of description of apertures etc can be a bit of a challenge to make sure we are all thinking in the same terms.

teardrop does not hit me as a term we use here in North America.

Sometimes on rubber and urethane mats the material is punched with a bell shaped opg on the bottom of the aperture.....ummm...self relieved as the punch passes thru the depth of the material. So the material can pass the opening especially if it is in fact nearsize and prone to plugging the aperture.

Can you describe a bit more detail on what you call teardrop shaped please. TKS GEORGE.

This story is shaping up........:>)

On Definition Of Tear Drop

i have attached a pic of what i meant by teardrop.

1) I wish to know how the shape of tear drop is designed.

2) Whether the apertures in flip flow screens are inwardly enlarged like in wedge wire screen or is the size constant?

Thanks, Regards & Greetings

Not A Straight Punch

I believe you will find it is not a straight punch but, slightly enlarged on the underside.

Maybe some one else can further add to this.

Shape Of Aperture In Flip Flow

Posted on 31. Mar. 2008 - 05:00

Thanks.

But is it necessary to have an enlarged section underside bcos flip flows are designed to work in pull-release manner where the ports gets enlarged whenever pulled.

In case it is straight punch - the life of the screen would be more. Am i talking sense?

You Are Talking Sense.....

Your analogy is correct in my opinion.

And if you look at the digitals images which their are many.....it would appear the apertures are in fact straight sided.

Maybe the guy from Liwell would care to enlighten.
