Centrifugal pumps in series

I have two sets of each 3 centrifugal pumps in series, for pumping nickel and copper ore tailings. These pumps are 86 AH warman pumps. Tailings storage facility is 50 Meters high in some areas, and is 5Km away from the main plant/pump house. I now have a constant gland leak especially on the last stage pump. From the pump curve the delivery pressure for one pump is around 4Bar. My sealing water pressure for the last stage is set between 12 and 13 bars. After replacing packings, they last btwn 3 to 4 days before they start leaking. Can any one suggest a better seal for the glands, or a better way of packing the glands.i dont have problem with the first two stages, infact iam using expellers on the first stage.

Can you replace the pump packing with wear resistant mechanical pressure seals?

It is a case of "Opportunity Cost with batteries of pumps moving waste like this.

Do you a pipeline pig to clear the lines to improve your transfer efficiency? That is a first step if you have extra water available.

Do your pumps have case drains to relief pressure against the seals of these pumps??

I would contact the Chesterton dealer in your area to ask about seals for your pump batteries as I think a mechanical

seal would be ideal for this if one is made.

Iam actually in the process of acquiring mechanical seals from Aesseal. Pumps casing dont have drains, because loss of pressure result in pipe blockage.
