Self is studying Solid Waste Management for Govt. Muncipal bodies in India i.e identify, suggest the right technologies for Solid Waste Management especially for Muncipal waste.

Muncipalities have been trying various options

1. Aerobic Windrow Composting

2. Anerobic Bio Gas digestor

3. Vermicomposting

Seggregation of Muncipal waste is not happening. Most of the Garbage is mixed comprising Household, Commercial and Industrial Waste. In such a situation what is the best option?

Now a new technology has been proposed called Pyrolysis for Power generation. I am keen to know from my friends on the viability and success of such a technology elsewhere.

Is Incineration or Pyrolysis a suitable option if proper seggregation is implemented?

Pyrolysis is the process of thermal decomposition of organic material at high temperature in the absence of oxygen. It is mostly used in chemical industries to produce charcoal, activated carbon, metanol etc. It is also used produce bio fuel and diesel from the waste plastic.

I think Pyrolysis will be better option because Incineration can be hazardous to life for eg

In some countries, incinerators built just a few decades ago often did not include a materials separation to remove hazardous, bulky or recyclable materials before combustion. These facilities tended to risk the health of the plant workers and the local environment due to inadequate levels of gas cleaning and combustion process control.

Solid waste management is a way through which we do garbage management. As long as humans have been living in settled communities, solid waste, or garbage, has been an problem for them so its necessary to manage that .So modern societies generate far more solid waste than early humans ever did.So to make city and society clean garbage management is needed.

In India... I have seen people even dumping cardboard boxes in form of cartons or paper bags etc. people are actually not ware that these boxes can also be recycled and converted into corrugated boxes that are used for many purposes like shipping, packaging, storage etc. and moreover they are also available in wholesale rates. People should stop using plastics and switch completely on cardboard bags or boxes. This is also a type of solid waste management.

Recycling is process used materials (waste) into new, helpful product. this can be done to scale back the utilization of raw materials that will are used. use conjointly uses less energy and and good way of dominant air, water and land pollution.

In India you will be going to see such cases that people threw their bags, cardboard paper and many other things which can be recycle, but people are unaware of such things.

Hello,

I knew the original Jefferson Smurfit quite well. Recycling board has become the norm in Indonesia. Plastic bags are the trouble. Supermarkets do not charge for plastic bags in Indonesia whereas this is a normal practice in Europe. I suppose the same is true throughout Asia. Charging for plastic bags makes people think although I don't think Indonesia can ever shake off the title of 'Land of the Plastic Bag!'.

Sorry to answer with that simple idea, which works in Pakistan:

1. shredding

2. selection

3. compact --> 4. alternative fuel for e.g. rotary kilns and ---> 5. scrap (iron, copper, ...)

Just see the video

What is not selected is garbage, but with with very shortened volume

Ugly Sisters

On these forums waste management has been largely negelected as if it was a Cinderella business.

There are many subscribers hereabouts concerned with the processing of raw materials which eventually become waste.

Isn't it about time there was a dedicated Solid Waste forum.

Where is DMS or even better LMS technology paticipation. Dense media separtion protagonists are missing out on a lot of business which according to the rest of this planet is staring them in the face.

Bulk handling is epitomised in shipping. Any clown than throw material into a ships hold:getting it out is a bit trickier.

Ergo. Any greedy git can process consumer items: recycling them is not so easy.

Roland highlighted plastic marine pollution some months back. After a few replies the post faded into obscurity.

We have a responsiblity to promote effective solutions for waste management far greater than our, thankfully diminishing, earlier zeal for producing the harmful raw materials.
