We process aqueous slurries containing 25-45% solids. About 5% of these solids that are > 1 micron need to be isolated. Can a centrifuge be used for such a separation despite the fact that the particles are all of the same product and therefore the same specific gravity ?

The slurry viscosities range from 30-100 centipoises and the temperature is ambient.

In case a separation is feasible how will the viscosity, the particle size distribution and solid content of the slurry influence it ?

centrifuges have been used as classifers to separate small from large solids as well as solids form liquids . Bird Machine Co should be able to help you
