Dear Sir,

would you please answer my question ?

For transport of 280 ton/hour cement raw material to a 98 meter height with an airlift of vessel size: diameter 1800 mm x 8100 mm height, and an conveying pipe diameter 450 mm. What is the necessary air volume and what is required pressure for blower height from see level is 1180 meter and max ambient temperature is 40 deg centigrade.

Best regards,

H.H. Javan

Dear Mr Javan,

Considering the vertical pipe as a pneumatic conveying pipe of 98 mtrs of length and a diameter of 450 mm, I calculated the 2 following possibilities.

Altitude 1180 m, resulting in an ambient pressure of 881 mbar at 40 degrC.

Material cement

=======================================

With a compressor of 1.75 m3/sec (105 m3/min)

Capacity 280 tons/hr at 2 bar(o)

Energy consumption 1.11 kwh/ton

begin air velocity 4.7 m/sec

end air velocity 13.9 m/sec

SLR = 40.45

=======================================

With a compressor of 3.5 m3/sec (210 m3/min)

Capacity 280 tons/hr at 1.1 bar(o)

Energy consumption 1.38 kwh/ton

begin air velocity 13.3 m/sec

end air velocity 24.3 m/sec

SLR = 20.15

======================================

Whether the airlift system can work with these pressures, that I do not know.

Like to know more about this kind of systems.

Sir

Given the dimensions of the airlift vessel, the conveying pressure must be limited to a maximum of 0.6 bar.

With the 450mm pipe you specified, the conveying pressure would be on the order of 0.4 to 0.45 bar and require an air volume of 155 m3/min.

Dear Jack,

Calculating the air lift installation for 155 m3/min ( # 2.5833 m3/sec) and 0.45 bar,

give the following results

Altitude 1180 m, resulting in an ambient pressure of 881 mbar at 40 degrC.

Material cement

=======================================

With a compressor of 2.5833 m3/sec (155 m3/min)

Capacity 280 tons/hr at 1.3 bar(o)

Energy consumption 1.15 kwh/ton

begin air velocity 9.0 m/sec

end air velocity 19.3 m/sec

SLR = 27.4

=======================================

With a compressor of 2.5833 m3/sec (155 m3/min)

Capacity 107 tons/hr at 0.45 bar(o)

Energy consumption 1.54 kwh/ton

begin air velocity 14.4 m/sec

end air velocity 19.1 m/sec

SLR = 10.44

======================================
