Husk Conveying System.

I am working on vacuum conveying system requirement as per below details,

Rice husk has to be conveyed from husk storage to husk silo located at 100 mtr distance.

Material :- Rice Husk.

Conveying capacity: 3000 kg/hr.

Distance Horizontal: 85 mtr.

Vertical: 15 Mtr.

No of Bends: 4 Nos.

I have selected 125 NB (5") pipe line size with Long radius bends.

Prime mover selected is Vacuum roots Blower of volume 1300 m3/hr and pressure 250 mbar. Cyclonic bag filter with discharge rotary valve is provided for material and air separation.

Can anybody guide me for suitability of above parameters ?

Dear abarawkaramitbarawkar,

Your parameters seem to be realistic.

The chosen velocities are 24 m/sec to 31 m/sec. (May be a bit high)

Solid Loading Ratio is 3, which is rather low.

Best regards

You are one size too big. DN 100nb pipe will do the job easily. If you want to push it

DN 80nb will also work but will need higher Vac rating on the exhauster.

For your current design assuming the air flow stated are at exhauster intake you

are slightly high on air flows in your calculations. Rise husk has high silica content

and is abrasive so it is good to keep the velocities minimal.

Thank you sir for your response.

I have considered leakage volume as Rotary valve is at product separator discharge and some margin for volume.

End velocity will be around 23-24 m/sec.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for response.

As rice husk is very light in weight, so worried about reducing line size as there may be chances of line chocking.

I am not able to judge avg velocity for rice husk so assumed on ~23- 25 m/sec.

Best Regards,

Amit

Dear Amit Barawkar,

1300 m3/hr through pipe diameter of 125 mm, results in an end velocity of 29.4 m/sec.

You state an end velocity of 24 m/sec.

This is 5.4 m/sec less, representing a blower volume of 239 m3/hr at -250 mbar

At atmospheric conditions, the leakage is then approx. 180 m3/hr.

Seems high for a 3 tons/hr rotary lock.

Take care

Teus
