Guar Gum Pneumatic Conveying

Posted in: , on 6. Jul. 2013 - 14:07

Dear All,

I am undertaking a project to convey guar gum granules (round chips of max 2mm appx) by pneumatic system from the unloading hopper to 500MT silos at a distance of 175 meters. The number of bends envisaged is 6nos maximum and the height of the silo is 10meters.

In order to know the type of blower and capacity of blower for this, I am assuming that the material to air ratio as 2. Is there any basis to arrive at this figure. I could do the pressure drop calculation for the line by using Crane 410.

Please guide me in this design.

With regards,

Girish

Dear Girish,

I could do the pressure drop calculation for the line by using Crane 410.

If you can do the pressure drop calculation for the line by using Crane 410, you have all you need.

The airflow in combination with the calculated pressure drop determines the applicable compressor type.

Take care

Dear Girish,

You cannot use Crane 410 to run calculations of a pneumatic conveying system. It is applicable to only gases and liquids.

You can use my well-known article (Theory and Design of Pneumatic Conveying Systems) for running these calculations.

Using dilute phase for guar beads will result in lot of particle wear. You may consider low velocity dense phase conveying to reduce this loss.
