Re: Tube/Pipe Conveyor From Koch
Dear Lawrence,
Thanks for your response.
Do you know any company there in the US who uses KOCH's tube conveyor?

Re: Tube/Pipe Conveyor From Koch
Why the strong interest in Koch?
We are fixing some Koch installations outside the US that do not perform to spec.
You can try Dearborn Mid-West Conveyor Co. who used to be the Koch USA representative before FLS (FFE in Pennsylvania) took them over. Dearborne Mid-West may still be a rep. Here is their link:

PLay the video and you will see some installations including a reference to Ohio. I do not know how old it is.
Conveyor Dynamics, Inc. (CDI) have a stronger expertise in pipe conveyor systems with our invention of the CONFINE design:
1) Less (lowest) power and belt tension
2) Tighter curves
3) Control of seam rotation in horizontal and vertical curves
4) Lower installed cost
5) Lower operating cost
6) Expertise in belt construction through advanced FEA techniques and testing
7) Biway transport
We have alliances in many countries that can provide turnkey systems. ■
Re: Tube/Pipe Conveyor From Koch
Thanks Lawrence for your information. Just a side note, what are the things that you are fixing now with these KOCH pipe conveyors? How is it that they are not conforming to specs?

Re: Tube/Pipe Conveyor From Koch
The information is very sensitive. Brielfy:
1. India: belt cannot track and folds in half at head station discharge - many edge damage sections - client extremely unhappy. We understand the problem and are in process of repair.
2. Brazil: belt internal structure appears to have less than necessaryl stiffness to maintain shape, according to our analysis the crossection may collapse. ■
Subrahmanyam
Dear sir,
Is it possible for Pipe Conveyor to have single flight length of 18km? please help with the solution.
Thanking you
with regards

18 Km Pipe Conveyor
Yes, as I mentioned in your other posting today, 18 km is possible.
Owners are skeptical about pipe conveyors with great length due to the much higher energy loss and higher belt ratings than normal trough conveyors.
The difference can be up to three times higher. Even though this forum has seen a number of pipe designers claim to the contrary, this claim must be compared on a technical basis where the biases of poor design and equipment selection are removed.
If you wish to collaborate, we can demonstrate a modern approach that reduces the difference between conventional trough and improved pipe constrution with its significant gains in performance.
Aside from the 2000 t/h coal rate, can you give input on:
1. Lump size and overall size distribution
2. Ambient temperature range
3. Country of installation
4. Timetable
5. ranges of horizontal and vertical radii. ■
Re: Tube/Pipe Conveyor From Koch
Dear Mhel,
Mr. Nordell ask why the interest in KOCH Pipe Conveyors. Koch is now part of FLSmidth and the company has installed more than 300 pipe conveyors around the world, including the longest in operation at 8.2 km long and we are busy supplying the largest capacity one at 4500 tph.
We are not aware of the problems that Mr. Nordell mentions and I would appreciate it if he can send me a private message with some details so we can assist if possible.

Re: Tube/Pipe Conveyor From Koch
Dear Subrahmanyam,
As Mr. Nordell said it is possible to have a single flight pipe conveyor at 18 km. The question is whether it is the best solution to a particular application.
Having executed more than 30 pipe conveyors with lentghs between 1 and 8 km we have a good understanding of the factors that influence the decision of doing a single flight or not.
Feel free to contact us if you want to discuss the subject.
