Vessel Unloading System Needed

Posted in: , on 28. Oct. 2011 - 08:25

We are looking for a suitable unloading system with a capacity to unload 250 M/Tons per hour of River sand from bulk carriers (50,000 DWT) to shore. The project

requires 120,000 MTons to be delivered monthly. Any information will be appreciated.

Local Advice Needed.

Hi,

I am presently in KL, (Jalan Ampang). Are the intended supply vessels geared according to Handymax?

Reading between the lines it seems like the business is estuarial and you will have some distance to cover to get to shore.

With enough draught in the roads you should be able to lighter onto a couple of 4000t barges to berth against a sheet piled wharf.

What will be your onshore transport situation? You will need to position and fill a truck every 6 minutes. That suggests a fixed 2 bin hopper fed by 2 grabs slung under general purpose harbour cranes.

Laden barge draught is about 4m and according to the outloading project I am working on for Indonesia the required hydraulic depth is likely to be 40m away from the shoreline but the slope is on the safe side. I think you might be in a similar coastal condition.

Good luck, you know where I am (johngateley@hotmail.com).

Dear AmDidi,

I wonder if the project, which you are conducting is economically feasible.

A quick calculation:

120.000 tons per month equals approx. 120000 tons/30 days =4000 tons/day

At an average unloading rate of 250 tons/hr, means 16 hrs of operation/day

Lay time of 50.000 tons vessel equals 50000/250 = 200 hrs # 12.5 LayDays.

If the unloading rate of 250 tons/hr is considered to be the maximum unloading rate, then, assuming an unloading efficiency of 67%, the unloading time will become 24 hrs/day or 18.75 LayDays at 16 hrs/day

Any defect on the unloader will cause serious demurrage as there is no back up.

Unloading a 50000 dwt ship with a 250 tons/hr seems to be a too small unloader for such a big ship.

A formula for calculating the average unloading in tons per day is: Capacity(average unloading) = 120 * DWT^0.35 tons/day
