Energy Costs - Electricity vs. Oil

Posted in: , on 6. Dec. 2009 - 21:35

hi all. i was wondering what your thoughts are re energy costs. Im looking at upgrading a production plant from mobiles to static. I ve only used oil as the energy source up to now but with this cost increasing again and unlikey to stop i have been looking into putting in a sub station and powering the whole plant bu electricity. I am also considering switching production to night time to avail of the reduced electric prices. Just wondering if any one had any thoughts on this, whether you think electricity although is linked to oil will increase as much as oil.

look forward to your thoughts.

Energy Use

Hello Trevor,

Unless you have a three phase high line nearby you will have little chance and they will charge you for installing one from the nearest high line to your doorstep unless their is huge demand for high voltage power in the vicinity of your plant.

A fixed fuel price contract with a with large tank of 5-10 thousand gallons with a containment will give you huge buying power to negotiate a fixed price contract as the larger a tank the larger the delivery truck with bigger savings.

With the current line of fuel additives loss of fuel quality(bacteria in diesel fuel) is a non issue these days.

Adding flywheels (if you have room) is a good way to save energy as well we have been using them on feeder breakers for many years here in the states for brute force energy as the electric motor simply delivers energy to a (worm gear to spur gear box) to energize the flywheel.

It has been a while since we chatted last, was my friend Wayne Nash able to help you with the sand issue and cleaning it?

Please email me if you wish to Trevor
