Send your enquiry to reputable supplier with full details of the belt conveyor and material handled. They will select a suitable unit and give a quotation.

Dear Sir

Assuming that the overband is the best system for the job, you will need to take the width of the conveyor into account and ensure not jst that the overband overhangs this but that the magnetic part of the overband overhangs it. i.e. the full length of the overband includes the two pulleys and usually a certain non-magnetic area - only somewhere between the pulleys is the plate. Also ensure that the plate quality and strength is suited to the situation: height of installation above the product and the other general variables which determine how strong a field is needed.

Most manufacturers, ourselves included ask for a fair amount of information prior to selecting a separator. Nearly all of ours are custom-made as few lines/applications are identical in every respect.

Dear Sir,

There are many parameters when you select an over band conveyor metal separator. In reality it is not selection but design of a magnetic circuit. On the other hand, you decide which kind of magnetic circuit you will use for this specific need of application. Sometimes you use electromagnets or sometimes you use permanent magnets for your magnetic circuits. Mainly you look at the following criteria;

„«The width of the belt; Your magnetic area should cover all of the width of the belt

„«The height of the material on the belt; It effects to the hanging height of the separator. The magnetic power (This expression is used to express what I mean to everybody) decreases with the cubic value of the distance.

„«The speed of the belt; You should give enough time to the separator, to catch and hold the tramp metal while it is passing under it.

„«The bulk density of the conveyed material; Your magnetic separator should have enough power on the surface of conveyor belt to take the tramp metal from (under) the conveyed material when it is buried.

„«The angle of conveyor idlers; It effects to the degree of the gravitational conveyed material force on conveyed material.

„«The size of the particles conveyed on the belt; It effects as lump weight on the tramp material to resist to the attraction force of the magnetic field.

„«And some other parameters; Those may come from the specific application of the system.

Please do not hesitate to write if you have more specific inquiry or question.

Until I had to approve, or definitely not approve, drawings from the market leader I would automatically have selected them. The field (Ho..Ho..Ho!) is wide open when it comes to magnetic separation; in fact you could say that they're all equally attractive (Ho..Ho..Ho agin).

We use this company for magnetic separation of metal getting onto our conveyors and have had great success with these units.

Did you ever get any sense out of their drawings though? Mind you I am talking about the Australian (Bastion of Mediocrity) arm of the operation.

You need to provide information as follows:

1. About the conveyor: width; speed; depth of material on the belt; angle. Drawings and/or digital pics of some optional positions to install would be good. Bear in mind that what is best for you may not be best for a separator.

2. About the product: type; size of particles;flow rate per hour (volume and weight); humidity and temperature.

3. About the tramp iron: percentage found in product; size. In general we need to calculate what would be trapped in a working day. This determines whether or not it is economic to buy a self cleaning unit or not.

We can help determine where best to install - always look for areas where there is gravitation and therefore a spread of the product, where possible.
