Why do you want to precisely measure the ash level? If you have pyramid hoppers, a simple rotating paddle switch at three separate levels, Low, Medium and High (Alarm) levels ought to be sufficient.

with indurad´s 2D DualRangeRadar iDRR much more information can be taken from the measurement, to verify its correctness. The unit can be highly customized by indurads software experts for example creating several virtual bins side by side or filtering out steel structures. You should send a drawing/picture and they should come up with a proposal

You are not using the precipitator hopper for storage but to funnel the fly ash to the pneumatic conveying system. You only need to know that the material is being removed and is not over-filling the hopper. You don't need a sophisticated device, as might be used for product storage and inventory.

We are curently dealing with a similar problem.

The solution that really caught my eye is ultrasonic measurement ( you can measure through 10 mm of wall from the outside, so its ATEX cleared and there are no unnecesary obstrictions in your hopper. You can calibrate the measuring device to give you a better and more realistical result ). Turck has sensors like this. ■

Dear Sir,

For dust collectors, under bag filters or ESP, we are usually asked to supply level detectors instead of level measurement devices. this device is necessary to prevent from any overflow in the filter due to an extraction problem.

For this application, we supply specific paddle switches, well known for their robustness. Moreover, our paddle switches have a specific mounting accessory especially designed for this application with a paddle extension to pass through the heat insulation. In addition, thanks to this accessory, our paddle switch work in temperature up to 500°C.

We have a lot of references for same application in cement plants, waste incinerator plants, power plants, engineering and so on.

Is a typical installation diagram available for Low level point level switch from outside Vessel for Lumpy material monitoring? Are there any other requirements in terms of material properties.
