World pays attention to carbon emission reduction of China's shipbuilding industry

After the devaluation of US dollars, steel price increase, and weak shipping demand, western port and ship companies bring out ¡°carbon emission reduction¡±. Det Norske Veritas (DNV) appealed yesterday China¡¯s shipbuilding industry to envisage the unpredictable factor for the prosperity of the industry.

Western pays attention to the carbon emission reduction

Western aviation companies and ship companies are now talking about ¡°Supply-Chain Carbon Check¡±. DNV said yesterday in Shanghai, western society is very sensitive to the warm-up of the global weather and try to cut the emission of carbon dioxide. Maersk Company is now exerting the plans of storage and transport quality and energy efficiency, and it promised to cut the energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission of its refrigerated container.

DHL said, the company would promote the low carbon transport service in China, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia and India. DHL demand a 3 percent of mailing fee as ¡°green fund¡±.

DNV pointed out, China is a large country in energy consumption and the usage efficiency of energy is relatively low. The GDP of China in 2006 occupied 5.5 percent, but its energy consumption took up 15 percent in the world. DNV said, China¡¯s government should take measures to reduce the carbon emission of ship companies.

Ship companies facing new pressure

Western ports and ship companies are not exerting the measure and there is not sign of prohibition to the ships without emission reduction. DNV also denies western is now making new trade barrier, but it admits that the notion will play a role on the industry chain of shipping.

China steel prices have increasing for eight weeks. The tendency of shipping industry will recover by April and May. With the loss from the US dollar balance, Chinese shipbuilding industry is now not optimistic and the change of costs and demand are not predictable. Besides, international carbon emission reduction makes new pressure.

DNV said, world large classification societies and China shipping and shipbuilding companies are related. Only maintaining the continuous prosperity of China¡¯s shipbuilding industry, can the businesses of the large classification societies be endless.

Background

The total annual income of DNV, entered China in 1888, was 700 million Yuan in 2007, and its income in China including Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao was 71.1 million Yuan in the same period.

Carbon Emission Reduction Technology Licensing

Posted on 5. Jun. 2008 - 03:45

Excert from Climatecleanup.com:

This new technology is the solution for carbon dioxide (CO2) emission reduction produced from the burning of fossil fuels - an effective CO2 emission reduction of 80.0% of is achievable - and the generation of free Carbon Credits for trading. The device can be quickly implemented in many different fields of application including smoke stacks, and land-sea-air transport. This CO2 solution has no secondary polluting effect or polluting bi-products. This is an effective and relatively cheap technology, mounted at the CO2 source. For example in a car the device is mounted on the exhaust system and is capable to reduce the CO2 emission in the range of 40.0% to 80.0%. Territorial Licenses are now available. Non-exclusive upfront license fees are now negotiable for small markets (i.e. in one country, or for one company) from $25 million USD, and an exclusive upfront license fee of $50 million USD.
