Wheel Wash System

Posted in: , on 19. Sep. 2012 - 07:48

Dear All,

We have envisaged to install a wheel wash system in our iron ore pellet plant. I got some knowledge on the wheel wash system by browsing on internet as mentioned below:

1. Wheel washing with nozzles

2. Automation for wheel wash system

3. Collection of waste water and its treatment

4. Pumping of treated water to process (if possible)

For the above four process multiple options are available, so anyone suggest me how chose the best available option based on dust, truck frequency & water availability.

Thanks in advance.

Pavan.

Namaskar Pavar Kuman,

Primary in your consideration is:

The simpler a system is to maintain and operate

will prevent you from having problems from corrosion,

electrical shorts and, missuse or impact damage.

The overiding factor for you will be the price of the unit

delivered and installed and what you can afford to pay for

it, or a simular unit or whether you will simply copy an existing

design.

Second, is how clean you want your lorries to be.

Third is how often you perform maintenance as a cleaner truck

will make maintenance faster and easier if you steam clean your lorries

prior to the preventative maintanance. If the lorries are kept clean the

there will be no build ups of dirt that will be cooked on the frame, engine,

transmissions, drive trains, diffirentials etc.

The main idea with any truck washing system is to prevent mud on

the roadway/motorway to prevent automobile accidents and prevent

mud build ups at the entrance/exit of the location where haulage trucks/lorries are used.

If you have looked at the units sold here in the United States you have seen that

they are self contained and also portable.

Not wanting to name drop but the folks at Innovative Equipment Solutions have

an authorised distributor in Australia which is closer to you.

The distributors name is:

I have driven quarry trucks through many wheel washers and learned as follows:

To:

1. Nozzles are rather obligatory. There must also be a pond to clean under the tyre contacts. Some washers are strong enough to remove paint.

2. It has to be automatic. Drive over activation at inlet and pump shut off after beam passage.

3. Water is not wasted: it is recycled in the washer.

4 See 3 for make up water.

You are not clear about dust. Is it expected before or after?

Truck frequency is complimented by the automatic operation. So....

Water availability: either it is there or it isn't! Storage capacity depends purely on the performance of the water treatment equipment. Iron ore debris will drop like a stone (Ho Ho ) so clarification should be a rapid affair. There will be quite a bit of residue carried past the washer unit so you need a run back slope and a reasonable draining distance before the final site exit.

If the environmentalists are onto you then you don't really have options.

Nowadays, if you send a truck on the public highway it has to be clean: usually washed. There is a trade off in some parts of the world between frozen wash water and frozen ground. It is not expected that frozen debris will remain attached for very long and that mitigates against the spread of pollutant anti-freeze.

A wheel washing system is a device for cleaning the tires of trucks when they are leaving a site, to control and eliminate the pollution of public roads.[1] The installation can be made in or above the ground for either temporary or permanent applications. There are two types of wheel washing systems: roller(rollers) and drive-through systems.

Despite the previous un-informative reply I would just like to remind the thread starter that he has not responded to the issue of dust as was previously mentioned.
