Most efficient way to transport powder or granul material vertically to 27m hght silo

Dear colleagues,

What is the most efficient way to transport material from a vibrating screens unedrsize to a silo which is 27m high.

The particals must not be segregated or effected by degradation.

*Denseveyor

*Elevator

*Vertical screw conveyor

*Blower

Hope to hear fron you soon.

Best regards.

For transport up this material you can use bucket elevator or pressure pneumatic system with a vessel and compressor. ( you can found at our internet side). But with both system could happen that the material segregated if falling down in the silo. If the density of the material is very different you need use a anti segregated pipe in the silo for both systems.

A vertical screw no function in this high. You can use may be up to 5-8 m as maximum. With blower and rotary valve you get to much speed in the pipe and the wear will be very high.

material charecteristic like density, moisture, angle of repose and abrasiveness of material etc will decide the requiremnt, then it is easy to answer your requirement. moreover, vertical screw is best option.

As Mantoo has so kindly mentioned a bucket elevator is you best option for

almost any material as the square area occupied by the lifting mechanism is

small with the dumping pit being the largest area occupied by the lifting method.

The bucket elevator has a long working life versus an auger system as there is less

friction and less material loss from friction as well.

The thing you must remember about augers is every square inch of surface area

exposed to the product which will grind against the product and the area of the

tube and the auger tube and flighting.

The use of a blower as an option os possible but the problems with friction and degradation

can still occur if the use of dense phase conveying is employed.

At the opposite end the use of dilute phase will create a backup of material if too small a

blower and tube system is used to convey the product from the floor of the system to the

horizon of the pipe discharge spout or spouts.

The biggest issue is silo loading with a blower system is even loading.

A distribution cone under the discharge spout permits the silo to be filled evenly at all times.

A bucket elevator does not require a discharge cone as the elevator discharge piping is engineered

to enter at the center of the silo roof with the proper elevation of the bucket elevator head discharge piping.

If you vistit the Sukup web site you will find lots of information about bucket elevators in general.

27m on vertical screw sounds almost impossible for a fine 1000 mic powder.

It would be interesting to see if Mr Venkatagopal has some references of this.

I agree with Mantoo that a vertical screw seems impractical. Would an Olds Elevator help? There is something lacking in the sales effort if it would. I have an almost identical situation (25m vertical versus 175m horizontal and 25m elevation by a starved belt) with low tonnages and some of the high angle technologies seem attractive until the reply to the sales enquiry arrives. There are lots of options out there but getting the information is quite another story.
