Latest Technologies in Material Handling In India

We would like to share our experience with Hon. members of this forum about latest developments in Material Handling in India.

About 7-8 years back our total handling at all Major Ports was equal to a one/two ports in China.India has a very good reputation all over the world in developing latest technologies in IT sector but due to various reasons we are lagging behind in Latest technologies in Material Handling systems.About 7 years back the handling capacity at single location was 5 mtpa which has gone to 50 mtpa.Due to increase in Handling capacities there is also urgent need of high capacity equipment with latest technologies. To meet this demand nos. of good companies have already entered in India and doing very good business but we still feel there is an urgent need of more companies in this sector. When Inland Water Ways transport opens up this demand may increase two folds.Due this sudden demand there was lack of good engineers /engineering companies, consultants who have fare deas about latest technologies.

We have already shared our views on this forum about 4-5 years back under--INDIA IS A SLEEPING GIANT WHICH HAS WOKEN UP.The figures about the demand of latest equipment in India which we have given is that forum superceds in nubmbers.

During this period we have got a chance to work for Companies like-Royal Haskoning,Fredrick-R-Harris,Mounsell,Rites,Halcrow,KPMG,Drewry,Tata Group,Mercator lines,Gammon,SICAL Logistics ect where we have learnt the latest technologies and innovative systems.

At present good companies in India in manufacturing of the equipment are full with orders and can not meet the supplies and supply period. We think we are in position to share our exepriance with interested cos. who are thinking to come to India.

In end we would like to thanks hon. members of this forum who have helped/helping us with their vast experiance in Latest technologies.

Gentleman, Thanks for you mail.Question is not for creating latest technologies but mindset of the clients. We have very few clients who do the detailed study before going for Port related jobs. For the last 3 years I have seen that port authorities and port developers are facing lot of problems by selecting wrong equipment and wrong layout.Selection of wrong equipment/supplier is creating big losses to them by holding of a ship for one or two extra days.Few years back one day holding of the ship-panamax size was 40,000 US/DAY which is less now but again this will increase due to increase in trade and handling capacities at ports from 750 mtpa to 1500 mtpa(total handling capacities at Indian ports) means ship turnaround will increase.

Hence the need to select those with a proven track record of success.

Suppliers need to be able to do more than "talk the talk" and give you a cheap price!
