Dear Mr. Jha,

from the little you give as information i'd think perhaps it's worth first to search on the internet. From a >CHP operation and maintenance< research different websites come to be shown, seemingly covering what you request (E.g. : https://www.gov.uk/government/public...nd-maintenance).

Coal handling plant operation includes many facets of engineering and science. Mechanical and electrical engineering are just as important as chemistry. You need to be able to ask and appraise questions similar to the ones that you were asked during your interview for your job. Most personnel managers are more concerned with body language and shoe colour than they are with technical competance. The easiest answer is to get someone in your outfit, who knows what he is doing, to sit alongside in the interview. If you can't find such a person then there is nothing to worry about.

Hello,

Some useful information is as below, to tackle operation and maintenance interview:

1) Know about the various equipment in CHP.

2) Know about the functions of various equipment.

3) Probable flow path in CHP. This will be helpful to understand operational matters.

4) Material inflow timing and outflow timing, which concerns the operational issues.

5) As for maintenance A) Accessibility for maintenance B) Provision for maintenance hoist / crane C) Study G.A. drawings of the concerned equipment D) Study of maintenance manuals for equipment and components E) Required spares , oil, lubricants, consumables F) Manpower G) Shutdown planning, discussing with plant manager and circular to other concerned department H) Risk for delay in work completion.

Maintenance issues are handled in Ishwar's reply #5.

As to #4, easy, realise that if material outflow stops it is impossible to have further inflow. This is true of all mineral processing plants, burning fuel is processing, and most plant operators fail to realise that and build large storage facilities and then later on find that they have wasted the firms money. It is akin to schoolkids fighting to get on the rush hour bus home. They can't get on the bus if nobody is getting off. It is a complete waste of time making feeding arrangements for a plant until you have guaranteed waste removal.

Hello,

Referring to query about sr. no. 4 mentioned in my earlier reply, some clarification is as below:

1) For a bulk material handling plant, it is quite common, the difference in time interval for material arriving at plant (for unloading) and time for consumption (utility). As an example, often the system related to unloading of coal will be operating for 2 shifts (say actual time 7 x 2 = 14 hours), whereas coal consumption in the boiler will be for 24 hours round the clock. This can make difference in capacity rating if designed accordingly.

2) As for the material at port, the system which is unloading the material and then making storage will have a bigger capacity because material is to be unloaded in certain hours say 35 hours for big ships arriving with coal. As against this the material from that storage to boiler will be flowing 24 hours and will have a lesser mtph compared to the unloading system. This is so because unloading system work intermittently and consumption unit works 24 hours a day.

The difference in inflow rate and outflow rate arises due to interim storage and all material handling systems will mostly have an interim storage.
