Requirement of 6 transloaders for coal

Posted in: , on 24. Jul. 2007 - 20:06

At this moment we see requirement of 6 transloaders (min 75000 tonnes) to take care of growing demand for coal to burn power plants and other Industries.Since, most of the power plants are either at river side or at sea side where max. draft is 4-5 m. Min requirement for 500 MW plant is about 5 mtpa. Importing coal from Indonesia or from Australia in small vessels ( Handymax ) costs to the client about 4-5 US $ per tonne,so the only option left for the end user is to do transhipping of coal in to small barges near the plant side where min. draft is 12-13 m (for panamax vessel). Port authorities are charging about 7-8 us $ to unload the coal at their ports and again extra charges about US $ 2-3 per tonne has to be paid by end user to bring the coal at their site either by trucks, wagons or by conveying system and above that the end user has to pay US $ 1,00,000 per day (for panamx vessel) as a waiting charges if, the ship is not unloaded with in 48 hours.
