List of Conveyor Installations

Posted in: , on 4. Sep. 2014 - 20:37

Good Day All,

I have been back through the forum beyond 2008 and couldn't find such a list.

Would anyone be willing to share or point me to a website that lists conveyances above 3km (or thereabouts) that have been installed in the last 10 years.

That is if such is available.

Length and tonnage is all I need for some internal reporting.

Thanks in advance.

If your at all interested I can provide you with information about a Pneumatic Capsule Pipeline

that has been operating since 1981 that is 98 percent efficient(yes 98% efficient) and moves limestone ore from

the quarry to the cement plant which is 10,000 feet from the quarry.

The same methodology was used to excavate and construct the AKIMA Tunnel in Japan.

I have a large white paper on the PCP concept on the forum here that could be used in the Wyoming Coal Fields that would eliminate

the haul trucks which are less than fifty percent efficient NO ITS NOT RUBBISH.

Check the Conveyor Components Corporation web site and if its still in existance.

Conveyor Installations Over 3 Km

Erstellt am 7. Sep. 2014 - 11:28

You can see many on the Conveyor Dynamics, Inc. (CDI) web site. I can send you a list of many dozens, not culled for post 2004. We have them for trough and pipe conveyors over 3 km. Why 3 km?

A short list of 25 majors with lengths over 3 km and estimated dates:

1. 9 km 1980 (34 years ago) M.I.C.A.R.E., Mexico

2. 13 km 1985, fix 7 & 6 km downhill overlands that failed, Canada

3. 14 km 1987 (5.5, 3 km), Kennecott, USA

4. 20 km (2 x 10km flights) 1989 Channar Overland, Australia with upgrades from 2200 t/h to 4600 t/h on second 10 km flight

5 24 km ( 9,8,5,2 km 4 flights) 1996? Indo-Cement, Kalimantan Peninsula

6. 15.6 km, 1996(?), ZISCO, Zimbabwe

7. 5 km German Creek 1996, Australia

8. 14 km Muja-Collie Westfarmers( 6,3,5 km flights), 1997, Australia

9. 7 km bi-way BHP, 1998, Australia

10. 5 km Yandi, BHP, 1998, Australia

11. 14 km ( 9;5 km flights) CRU-II, 1997-1998 BHP, South Africa

12. 12 km Los Pelambres, 2000, ( 5,6 km), Chile with 3 upgrades to date at 11,000 t/h

13. 6 km Collahuasi, 2002, longest flight, Chile

14. 20 km Curragh North, 2007, Westfarmers, Australia

15. 7 km Mundra Port, longest single flight is 4 km, 2011(?), Adani, India

16. 14 km Dahej Port, first flight installed and commissioned 2012, Adani, India

17. 27 km Impumelelo, 2014, SASOL, South Africa (in construction and to be commission in 2014)

I not included multitude in Brazil and China with up to 8 km pipe conveyors.

Hi Steve, I worked for Australian Conveyor Engineering services division(ACE Services) and then Continental ACE Services from 1993 to 1998 and then for various other companies to 2004 as the senior supervisor in installation of many over 3kms long clearance conveyors. Some of the conveyors are listed:-

1/ ARCO Gordonstone Coal Mine (a) Main Gate 101 - 3.7km with 2 tripper boosters (b) Tail Gate 101 - 7.3Kms

(c) Main Gate 102 - 7.3km with 3 tripper boosters (d) Tail Gate 102 - 7.5Kms

(e) Main Gate 103 - 7.5km with 2 tripper boosters (f) Tail Gate 103 - 7.5Kms

(a) Main Gate 201 - 2.8km with (b) Tail Gate 201 - 3.2kms

The Trunk conveyors started at 1.8km and was finally extended out to 6.8kms I believe to cover the face of the 320 mts coal blocks and 30 mt pillars of 18 Main Gates.

There was also a 3.2 Km drift belt 2.000mm 6500 T/H running at 6.2 mt/sec with a 520mts to ROM Bin and then down the decline from the surface to pit bottom of 1.8kms plus 500mt and then extended further in 2004/5. All conveyors were 1800mm belt width @ 5000 t/h capacity. The was also the TeaTree extension and a 14km overland.

2/ BHB Crinum Mine had many conveyors also running at 5000 t/h in the drift and trunk and Main & Tail Gate belts and an overland of 10.5 Kms 1400mm at 5.2mts / sec from Crinum to the Gregory Prep Plant.

3/ South Blackwater Coal - Kenmare Mine had many conveyors that exceeded 3.2 kms @ 4.2m/s 1600mm and 400t/h and these are just some long conveyors I installed or supervised.

4/ North Goonyella Coal had at least 5 long conveyors exceeding 3kms up to 7kms long as of 1998 and the coal blocks were varied and difficult but I have been reliably informed that 5kms was many of the following conveyors under the differing companies following owning the tenement now held by Peabody Energy.

5/ Shell - Moranbah North Coal now Anglo American Coal had overland conveyor of around 5kms and the 2200mm Drift, Trunk and Maingate conveyors of 2000mm all had 5000t/h and belt speeds of around 5 m/s.

There is a lot of other conveyors I have worked on or supervised the installation both here and overseas that exceeded 3kms.

Hope these add to your list.

Conveyor Installations

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I am aware of the Sumitomo capsule system. Interesting, but why, if it is so good, has no-one developed and sold it on to any extent? Pneutrans (others?) are still marketing capsule systems.

3km is an arbitrary length that I have taken, where there is competition in methods of transport and conveyance, and also where I generally know I should be asking for specialist assistance in the engineering design of a conveyor.

Each situation is different, and I accept there is no "magic" length where something changes.

Also, it seemed if I didn't put in a nominal length, I would have a list of thousands of shorter conveyors that are not relevant to my reporting.

As an industry, my perception is that we probably don't install many "long" conveyors each year, less than 20 perhaps. I was hoping to confirm or otherwise.

List Of Conveyor Installations

Hi Steve, I've attached a list of long and high lift conveyors (OLCs and HLCs) along with hoists and trucks for comparison. There are lots of gaps and inaccuracies. Use it with care!!

I have also included charts:

- H vs L

- H vs Im

- L vs Im

The H vs L chart illustrates:

- OLCs grouped close to the H=0 axis

- HLCs grouped around the atan(H/L) =10 deg axis

The L vs Im and H vs Im charts are useful for illustrating the limits of application for OLCs and HLCs resp.

I have added a 'Year' column that may be useful for answering your question re the annual demand for long conveyors.

I trust that this will be of some use. Please advise any errors and useful additions.

Regards,

======================================

There are a number of overland belt conveyors with power efficiency registering above 99% at the drive shaft. Efficiency is defined by (power used/mass moved) excluding lift.

Today, using Low or Super Low Rolling Resistance rubbers (LRR;SLRR), optimizing idler diameter, bearings, lubricant and spacing, modern selection of top and bottom cover thicknesses and modern chute design do produce superior energy efficient designs, which can exceed typical DIN f < 0.010. A 2% energy loss would not be considered as efficient.

How Many Olc Are There Per Year ≫ 3 Km?

Erstellt am 21. Dec. 2014 - 07:51

My guess would be > 100, may be >200, when considering China, India, Russia, Africa, North & South America, Australia, .......

CDI bids more than 50 per year, greater than 5 km, and we miss a lot. A lot are not interesting with 100 panel beater bidders/project.
