Rizk and Matsumoto correlations

Posted in: , on 9. Oct. 2006 - 21:19

In the Rizk correlation: is the x value there (particle diameter) the maximum particle diameter or average diameter?

Can anyone give me the Matsumoto correlation? If possible with the article describing how to use it.

Dear Amit,

goto :

In chapter 9 you will find the Rizk formule and in the nomenclature the used variables.

The particle size x is described as the mean particle size.

Matsumoto entered in google gives a lot of hits resulting in complex numbers.

Too difficult for me

The Matsumoto correlation is:

Solids Loading Ratio= 1.11 x (Density of particle/Density of gas)^0.55 x (Frt/10)^-2.3 x (Frs/10)^3

Where

Frt= particle terminal velocity/(gravitaional acceleration ( 9.81 m/sec) x equivalent particle diameter)^0.5

and (as Rizk)

Frs=saltation velocity/(gravitaional acceleration ( 9.81 m/sec) x Pipe Diameter)^0.5.

Chris Woodcock of Cypherwrite Software sold a conveying calculation software package (called Piccadee) a number of years ago which used both Rizk and Matsumoto and allowed easy calculation and comparison of the results from each, not sure if that is still available though. He also mentions a paper published by Leung and Jones "Estimation of saltation velocity in horizontal pneumatic conveying - a comparison of puplished correlations" Proc of Pneumotransport 4 Conference, paper C1 which compares the results of 7 different correlations incliding Rizk and Matsumoto and may be a useful reference for you.
