Wood chip screen

Would that be a probem if we use a gravel screen to screen woodchip?

I noticed most woodchip screens having a horizontally rotating counter weight. But the gravel screen has vertically arranged flywheels. What is rationale behind this difference?

Thanks

If you are thinking of buying a screen what do the manufacturers say?

The disc screen is another type of screen popular for use with wood chips.

You may wish to consider running trials with your material on diferent types of screens to get the optimum performance.

Thanks.

The manufacture suggested to adjust the counter weight on the fly wheel. In this case, a small piece steel needs to added to the negative side of the fly wheel to reduce the moment a little bit.

Besides the Trommel screen, in terms of vibration pattern, what types are suitable for wood chip? Gyratory, linear motion or ...?

Hello Jeff: many types can be used with varying inefficiencies

CIRCLE THROW INCLINED SCREENS:

1. No problem to use, they will throw the chips up into the air like a gravel screen and the fines will attempt to sift their way down thru the bed of material to pass thru the openings in the wirecloth screen.

2. Shape of woodchips: This becomes a problem more so then gravel per say. The irregular shapes have a tendency to PEG the hole, get in an not get out and become LOCKED into the hole by the passing load overhead. But, many many circle throw screeners in the field working absolutely fine.

3. The stroke does not need to be real big for woodchips, in fact you want to try to keep it down or not too big on this type of screen. No need to be overly aggressive.

........................

RECIPROCATING SCREENER: This type of screener, kinda swings SIDE TO SIDE and does not actually throw the chips UP INTO THE AIR, but, attempts to have the chips pass as they move side to side. MANY types in the field doing a very good good.

Maybe look up BM&M SCREENERS on the web......for some examples of this concept. http://www.bmandm.com/super.htm

>>>>>>>>>>

TROMMELS: are completely useable, but typically if doing compost and trying to seperate ROCKS and debris from topsoil. ...but can be used for shredded wood seperation. Trommel concept is basically the DRUM rolls......positively displacing the material....in the drum, passing dirt out bottom and plus material out the end of the drum. MORE aggressive with non free flowing type of feeds.

Hoping this is some help, keep smiling.

According to my experience, It might work, but will generate wood dust puffs.

Wood chips screening rather be done on sealed screening machine, preferably low speed.
