Sizing of screen for coal

Posted in: , on 24. Dec. 2005 - 19:13

During my study of sizing of screens for coal I came across the method given in the book "Coal Preparation" by Leonard. It dipicts a graph for the calculation of screen capacity in Tons Per Hour Per Sq. Feet Through Openings vs Size of the openings. Do here also we have to use a bulk density correction factor to get the correct capacity? If so what is it? Please Help. ■

Density Factor Correction

VSMA.........will use a material bulk density factor of 1 assuming the material is 100 lbs cubic foot. Anything other than aggregate, ie coal will direct you to a correction factory to reflect the weight of the specific TYPE of coal.

This will in turn make the screen area required .......larger or smaller of course. ■

Dear Mr. Kaushlesh,

Your question is more of a general nature. There can be two types of graphs (1) Graph depiction coal output ton/hour per square feet of area. Even in such graph, they would mention what is the bulk density they have considered while mentioning ton/hour. (2) The graph depicting cubic feet / hour per square feet of area. In this case you have to multiply it by bulk density etc. to convert into tons/hour.

The screen throughput is volumetric in nature.

Thanx Mr. Mulani I got your point. But I got confused because no refrence bulk density was given the graph.

Thanx anyway. ■
