Loss-in-weight feeder for powder with difficult physical characteristics!

What to do if the powder to feed is very sticky, chemically extremely aggressive and can explode under specific circumstances?

Gericke has a large experience in the manufacturing of loss-in-weight feeders, also for such kind of products.

Suitable feeders need specific adaptations of

• the design of the feeding tools

• the mechanical construction and drive

• the surface finishing and treatment

• the weigh controller.

A feeding job can disturb a complete production process or generate a waste product if the engineering of the feeding application has not been done carefully or if the wrong equipment is used.

Gericke combines an over-dimensioned feeder hopper with a large feeder entry section to keep the product flowing into the feeding helix.

The requirements for the mechanical construction and drive of the loss-in-weight feeder:

• the feeder must ensure the massflow in the hopper

• the helix or screw has to be filled without interruption and with product of constant density

• gas proof design for nitrogen purging

• pressure compensation kit

• ATEX approved drive and components.

Surface finish

In the described project, even stainless steel surfaces corrode, when not protected. The complete feeder, agitator and helix are coated with PTFE.

Weighing conception and controller

Gericke’s unique hybrid weighing conception makes it possible to achieve high accuracy also with a heavy feeder and EX proof drive. The total weight of the feeder is mechanically compensated and tared out. This solution has the big advantage of leaving the entire resolution of the load cell available for the measurement of the feedrate. The EASYDOS weighing controller can be used for feeders placed in EX zones.

Gericke DIW SAD loss-in-weight feeder is designed for the continuous weighing of difficult flowing products in hazardous zones. It combines highest accuracy with security and long life-cycle.
