Peter,

I agree with some of the replies to your question that with low speed trajectories the Dunlop method, gives good results. If you have not been able to obtain a copy of this method I could mail one to you.

One important point that should be included in high speed trajectory layouts, is the shape of the trough transition at the head pulley. The transition will generally increase the angle of the belt in the centre and reduce the angle at the edges. We therefore plot two trajectories to cover the full range.
