Know-how and experience:
Alastair Mulligan is a Port Analyst with BMT Maritime Consultants where he is responsible for analytical analysis, market assessments, background data investigations, the building of numerical and financial models and the financial and economic analysis of port and shipping projects.

During Mr Mulligan’s time with BMT Maritime Consultants he has undertaken a number of key financial economic analyses. These range from financial discussions on cruise terminals, bulk and container terminal valuations through to capital expenditure schedules and utilisation models. He has also developed generic valuation models that can be used to value various maritime situations.

Mr Mulligan is able to apply his experience to the project at hand as this project is similar in nature to many of the maritime operationalfinancial scenarios he has constructed in the past. Mr Mulligan is able to build models which take capital expenditure, depreciation, operating revenueexpenses and financing into account and the timing of each of the respective cash flows. Sensitivity, ratio and breakeven analysis can be undertaken to provide more in-depth information to the client that will aid strategic decisions.

In respect to coal chain options (road, rail and barge), Mr Mulligan has produced financial analysis on the varying components. Operational models have been developed to determine the required size of the berthsparks along with future expansion requirements. These model feed directly into the cost per tonne figures that can be provided to management for direction.
