Re: Rotating Screen Designs
Dear Mr. Norman,
The screen size determination method depends more upon experimental data and verification. I doubt whether you will get formula method for the same, as it is a business proprietary type of information. However, if you mention material, capacity, feed-size and product-size; the likely screen size etc. can be indicated.

Re: Rotating Screen Designs
Mr Mulani,
Thankyou for your reply.
I currently use the equations for the sizing of vibrating screens that have been published ("Mineral processing fundamentals. Comminution, sizing and classification" by Gustav Torjan) to determine a screen area for any rotating screens that I have to size. I basically determine the area of screen that is in contact with the bed of material in the screen at any one time and assume this as my screening area. This is about the best approximation I can come up with for determinining the required size of a rotating screen.
Generally, this method seems to oversize the screens but I am still refining it as I collect more data from various installations. ■
Trommel Sizing Chart
Hello: Please find application chart for trommel screens or rotating screens for your request.
Sorry, upload of attachment was not possible........so lets do this, you can go to:

URETHANE vs STAINLESS STEEL WEDGEWIRE:
Both good media for use with wear. If you have a high abrasive content urethane is a proven media and excellent especially for slide wear.
Stainless steel wedgewire is excellent for abrasion also and you would typically find this in a wet abrasive application.
I would say urethane would last longer and be easier to replace vs SS WEDGEWIRE. Both media are not particularly good when dealing with IMPACT ABUSE type of wear.

Trommel Sizing Methods
Brian,
For what it is worth I have copies of (old) published literature from two separate OEM's who state that sizing selection can be figured on the normal (VSMA) formulas for vibrating screens, and substitute one third of the diameter for the screen width.
I have in the past sized trommels using a different (inherited) method, but the answers don't seem to be too much different. ■
Underperforming Screen Problem....
Hello to Ask20: Thankyou for the question. Also, I would like to thank mikemcbain for the plug always, appreciated.
Let's see:
When first I read your comments, excellent by the way, i too assume the screen is dead sluggish and probably underperforming quite a bit.....but, we should get some base data to give a more specific reply.
Can you supply:
- Width, length of screen deck
- Number of decks
- Wirecloth openings (we will dictate what we do need)
- Mfr of unit if possible
- electric drive, hydraulic drive, diesel genset or?
- what are we screening?
- Wgt per cu/ft of material being screened
- Top size of feed material(biggest piece coming onto the screen)
- smallest size of material
- how many TPH being FED to unit?
- coil spring mounts, leaf springs, rubber mounts, rosta mounts
- adjustable stroke???
From here we can START to have a good clear conversation and help make this rig work or go to plan B.
Thankyou for participating, I await your reply.

Screen Information - George
George
Sorry I over looked the necessary information
Here are the specifications as to the best of my knowledge.
- Width, length of screen deck (approximately 550 x 1600 mm)
- Number of decks (Single deck)
- Wirecloth openings (The screen has a flow area of approximately half that of the screen deck area)
- Mfr of unit if possible (The unit weighs approximately 160 kg)
- Electric drive, hydraulic drive, diesel genset or? (0.55 kW Electric Drive)
- What are we screening? (Lime of density 910 kg/m3)
- Top size of feed material (Lime is being screened for foreign objects such metal bolts etc)
- How many TPH being FED to unit? (7t per hour)
- Coil spring mounts, leaf springs, rubber mounts, rosta mounts (Screen is a 2 bearing circle throw inclined screen, mounted on 4 coil springs)
- Adjustable stroke? (The screen has a non-adjustable stroke)
I hope the above information will be able to help you recommend a desired frequency, amplitude, screen deck acceleration.
Regards

Brian
Have a look at:
200 MT of 20% humid phosphate being screened on 15mm, leaving half a screen without material, using a Kroosh ULS 3.5X1.25 which has a total of 4 square meters of screening area.

Rotating Screen Designs
Although this forum is for Vibrating Screens there don't appear to be any others that are relevant to screening, so my questions are:
1. Does anyone know of any design information specific to rotating screen design? Particularly with regards to the determination of required screening area.
2. Roughly, how does the life of polyurethane screens compare with stainless steel wedge wire screens in a particular application? (In my case mineral sands mining)
Thanks in advance for any help. ■
