Why Concave Conveyors not Straight?

Posted in: , on 2. Mar. 2010 - 07:05

Hi All,

Can you please let me know why the conveyor designers prefer to design concave conveyors rather than straight ones ?

Please see the attached file.

Thank you in advance.

Its likely less expensive to elevate a small portion of the conveyor length than the whole tomato, depending if you have enough length to install a concave curve.

Hi there..

Its also so that you can load on a flatter portion at the tail, and then take-off to say 16 degrees.

Loading on 16 degress would cause more spillage than at say 5 to 8 degrees at the tail with alot of materials handled.

Why Concave Conveyors Not Straight?

Hi,

It depends on the angle of inclination. Generally if it is in the range of 5-6 deg we can keep it straight. For higher angles we need to provide a straight or max 6 deg angle at the feed point mainly to avoid spillage caused by material roll back.

Palabora Loads @ 15.5 Deg Incline

Posted on 14. Jul. 2010 - 09:03

Graham,

Recall Palabora loads at 15.5 degree incline, transporting copper ore, large > 300 mm lump, at 6500 t/h, at 4.1 m/s.

With curved spoon, spillage at loading point was virtually eliminated.

This extreme loading angle was designed to minimize the tunnel excavation. Not normal, but, acceptable.

So you build up your own rules as you gain experience.

And when you see something that doesn't agree with you curent rules ask "why does this work on this application".
