Vulcanized Splice for Reversible Belt Conveyor

What is the best way to do the vulcanized splice for a reversible belt conveyor?

Some people recommend the typical angled splice while other recommend a V type splice to avoid misalignment.

See attachment.

Have you ever seen a V-Splice installed?

I have thought about its application and find merit in its shorter bias length, its better introduction to pulleys, shorter press length, and so on. I am not so gifted to understand how to apply and effective silk seal on a line deflected within the press at both ends. Do you know if it can be done? Does any forum participant know if it can be effectively done?

Regarding the reversible conveyor issue, it is done as any normal splice is done, with the normal bias, be it 17 degrees or 20 degrees, or no degrees, but with staggered cable ends or staggered fabric (hybrid-finger ends).

In the case of a reversible belt, wouldn't the belt alignment be way more sensitive to the alignment of the idlers, splice alignment, and other lateral forces incl load centring, etc. rather than the splice type itself?

Unless the belt length-width ratio was very low, maybe ...

Dear Sir,

Regardless of how the belt is spliced, it must be square. Even more-so as this is reversing service. In my opinion, it is probably best to stick with a standard bias splice. Not sure where you'd get a V-style vulcanized splice done?? I am only aware of a Flexco Wed-lok splice performed in a "V"(and its mechanical). You may try a square (no bias) finger splice, but still not sure it would help.

When idlers are not biased with a forward bank or tilt that is used to aid tracking, then the belt should be able to operating in forward and reverse directions. This we practice and use reversable belts per the preferred non-tilt idler alignment.

Forward tilt is a way of masking poor installation. It creates its own maintenance issues.

We splice reversible conveyors the normal way with a cover stock/saddle top cover bond. The only time I've done a V shaped splice is on chevron belting.
