Horizontal gravity takeup

Posted in: , on 5. Mar. 2008 - 20:37

Hi members

if the HGTU ( winch takeup ) is for a length of fourteen metrs, ie the tail pulley has to travel a length of 14 m, how will we support the belt on carrying side.

Kindly advise me the arrangement

First, you note HGTU. Second, you call it a winch. Which is it?

Then you state it travel 14 m, which is about a 900 m fabric or 5000 m steel cord belt center to center between pulleys.

There are many ways to support the belt. It also depends if you need any support. Tension numbers, dynamics, belt weight, et al as well as available space and the possibility of multi-reeving are options. How do you know that the selected length is sufficient?

Sounds like another suck-it-and-see job where the client gets the extra bill and takes the extra risk of a failure for someone applying a do-it yourself and learning on the job.

This is an answer I'd like to see as well!

Is it my imagination or are all these requests for free engineering from similar parts of the world?

So it seems.

Gentlemen,

I have worked with several engineers from that "imagined"..." similar part of the world" and would just like to say that whatever advice you offer, free or otherwise, will be either contradicted or ignored. As you already know.

yOU ARE ONLY TALKING 10 METERS AS I READ THE DRAWING.

We space return idlers at 10 meters and more. What is the issue?

You probably don't need any. Certainly only need one on the return for giggles.

As I stated above, you have provided little information on the dynamic tensions, belt specs, et al. Trying to second guess a design is not on.
