Dear Mr. Subra:

There are a number of companies that manufacture powered diverters for use with flat belts or roller conveyors. These are generally used for sortation purpuses on package conveyors, or with belt conveyors handling small items, such as pills.

Companies that manufacture this type of equipment include Rapistan and Hytrol. The Hytrol web site is www.hytrol.com. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the Rapistan site off-hand -- but a web search will give it to you.

Diverter plough for bulk materials do not need motor for its material discharge function.

It seems you are mentioning motor for poistion IN / OUT for diverter. This is generally done by motorised actuators.

Dear Mr. Subra:

You can control the diverter positioning and pressure by installing sensors (limit switches, proximity switches, pressure switches, et cetera) and tie them into your control system. They will advise the control system of the operating condition of the plow and, in turn, the control system program can force adjustments as needed.

Which input/output devises are best suited to your application will depend on the control system you currently are using. That information can be obtained from your electrician or from the installer/designer of your conveyor.

This type of diverter and the control system devises can be supplied by most major bulk material handling conveyor designers/installers, such as Kvaerner, Voest Alpine, et cetera. This equipment is also available from package conveyor companies such as Rapistan, Hytrol, etc.

Given your location, you should do an Internet search for a source that is closer. This would help to ensure that you obtain compatibility with your control system and power source.

You will have to provide design criteria for the supplier -- such as diverter motion (horizontal or vertical), length of motion, blade requirements (rubber, metal, or plastic), and control restrictions. Also, you will have to decide which power source for the diverter is best suited for your application (electric, hydraulic, pneumatic).

Mr. Dave Miller of ADM has given detailed answer. I add following message as a general information.

There are various actuators, such as motor actuator, hydraulic actuator, pneumatic actuator, electromagnet (solenoid) actuators etc. the choice depends upon application.

Motor actuator has motor, screw and nut in a totally enclosed construction. It gives actuation travel according to setting of travel limit switch. The actuator can also include thrust dependent switch to prevent overloading,
