Reversible bucket for barrel type reclaimer

Posted in: , on 8. Aug. 2005 - 12:51

Dear All,

To get better efficiency, we use barrel type reclaimer. Now my requirement is to reclaim in both direction by barrel reclaimer which needs all buckets are to be reversible type. Is there any installation of the same? Please let me know.

Regards.

Until today I thought all barrel recalimers worked in both directions as a matter of course. If a barrel reclaimer can only work in one direction then how do you store fresh material? You have to retract the machine & stack ahead. This means that the original ensilement might never be reclaimed; besides which, reclaiming is interrupted whenever stacking takes place. There are uni-directional bridge scraper reclaimers working buffer stockpiles where the time consolidated weathered pile runt is of little importance. These are found between cement works & the adjacent quarries/claypits.

Butterley Engineering built an excellent Italimpianti licenced barrel reclaimer for the Selby complex in 1984.

If you are reworking the buckets then it is quite a straightforward excercise but your throughput will be reduced. If you fit larger buckets to maintain the throughput then you might seriously weaken the barrel.

Your other solution would be to buy a mirrored version of your present machine. That way you would not eliminate the throughput.

Dear Shri Banerjee,

The earlier respondent has said that barrel type reclaimer will be always for reclaiming during forward travel and also during backward travel. However, in a reputed German publication, I have seen the stockpile arrangements where in one case it is having harrow only on one side and it is reclaiming only in one direction. There is also stockyard arrangement wherein barrel reclaimer is showing harrow in both the sides and it can reclaim during forward travel as well as backward travel. If the barrel reclaimer can reclaim only in one direction, then that stockyard area cannot be utilised for stacking, till the reclaimer has reached the end of the stockpile and comes back to the starting location. In case the barrel reclaimer can reclaim in both the directions then, after reclaiming half the length of stockyard, the stacker can start building up of blended stockpile on empty space and so better utilisation of the stockyard space.

The expert of this machine can comment on this point, but it seems the systems as above have been utilised. This only for clarity about the machine variants and it does not imply favor or disfavor of any one type.
